Creating a Cozy Home

Whether you live in a small home or are  looking to downsize, a tighter space may be fitting for some homeowners. I’ve discussed the benefits of smaller homes in the past. For instance, such homes may require less maintenance, can be less costly, can be less time-consuming to upkeep, can allow for editing out non-essentials, can provide opportunities for focusing on creating a space of purpose, and best of all…can be quite a cozy space for comfort.

I think it’s fair to say, people love cozy homes. You see, your home shouldn’t just be a place to sleep in at night. It should be a place where you can unwind after a long day of work. A place where you and your loved ones can gather together creating memories. A place of comfort and happiness.

That’s why so many spend a fortune trying to achieve it. The investment, however, comes with a return, as creating a cozy home can increase the value of your property.

To create a cozy space, consider the tips below:

1) Harness the power of colors: Certain colors can stimulate comfort and have lasting, physiological effects. For the coziest of shades, consider incorporating deep, warmer colors like orange, yellow, or even neutral browns, blacks, slate-gray, and/or navy.

2) Accessorize with Textiles: Have you ever arrived home, just desiring to curl up on your rug and/or under a throw? If not, you may not have the softest of rugs and/or are lacking in throws. First off, in respect to rugs, not only are they effective insulators against the cold, thus allowing you to physically warm up your space, but they can also add a cozy element to a room. Similarly, throws can add an elegant element of luxurious comfort. For such textiles, consider soft, faux furs and natural textiles. For example, imagine a room with a lush sofa sitting on top of a faux fur rug and a crocheted throw wrapped over its arm…all you’d want to do is snuggle up.

3) Pay attention to lighting: Lighting has a lot of influence on creating a cozy ambiance. To achieve the coziest of feel, avoid florescent and glaring lights. Your best bet is to use floor and table lamps with a dim, golden yellow ambiance. Additionally, you may want to install dimmers to control the light’s intensity. Moreover, mood-setting candles can make a big impact too.

4) Create a nook: Nothing is as cozy as having a place of your own. If your house has an alcove, you may want to convert that into your nook. If it doesn’t, you can simply select an area and add a comfy chair, footrest, pillows, throws, and a side table to establish your space. To make a bigger impact, don’t forget adding a library of books as they state cozy.

5) Add Floor Pillows for Extra Seating: For a relaxing vibe, layout a few poufs and cushy pillows for added seating.

6) Update your bedding: Cozy comes with comfort and that should be applied in every area of the home. Your bedding may also need an overhaul. Think soft, fluffy bedspreads and pillows to melt into.

7) Add a Fireplace: There’s something about a fireplace that makes you want to snuggle up, with some hot cocoa or a glass of wine, and a good book or some Netflix. If your home doesn’t have a fireplace, as an alternative, you can add an electric fireplace, sconces, and/or candles.

Just a few little changes can make a big difference on cozying up a space
