Whether you are planning on selling or buying a home this spring, daylight savings can allow you to spring ahead of your competition, as it creates many opportunities for those seeking to enter or take advantage of the benefits of the real estate market.
On Sunday, March 8th, 2020, daylight savings will begin at 2AM in California. If you are not familiar with daylight savings, this is when you will change your clocks ahead one hour to “spring forward” to daylight.
Enacted in the United States after World War I, daylight savings offers great opportunities to home buyers and home sellers. As you may have read in my previous blogs, spring makes a beautiful time to blossom in the real estate industry.
For home buyers, this spring, leverage the longer daylight. As you drive around, take a moment to appreciate what you do and do not desire in a home. What does your dream home look like? What memories do you want to create in your new place? Does this home have a porch? An attached garage? Is it single story? How about a swimming pool? What about the neighborhood? As you uncover your wants and needs, contact me so we can chat. Together, we will create a game plan, where we will determine your budget, uncover what you truly want in a home, research properties meeting your desires, set a time to tour homes, and if you wish…take advantage of the later days when touring properties.
For sellers, as you may know, spring brings more buyers (and more sellers). Therefore, I can’t stress enough – list now so you can capitalize on the buyers currently house hunting. With the longer days and California’s beautiful weather, spring can also enhance your curb appeal and increase your property’s photo opportunities. Also, let’s not forget to mention that spring is a perfect excuse to take advantage of spring cleaning so you can declutter, tidy up, and set the scene for a move in ready home, where buyers can imagine themselves in living in your property. This is a big key to closing quickly and for more.
Now, you may be complaining that day light savings means that with springing forward you will also be losing an hour of sleep. BUT, remind yourself that you will also gain much needed sunshine and many advantages for buying a home, selling a property, or doing both.
On a side note, the policy for changing the clock from standard time to daylight savings time and back again to standard time has been under legislative review. In fact, there are multiple proposals to terminate our time switching, such as the Sunshine Protection Act which has been raised by Florida Senator Marco Rubio and which favor having Daylight Saving Time year-round. But for now, spring and daylight savings time is upon us – offering opportunities to adjust your house size up or down.
As always, if you need any help listing or buying a home, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
